Because I am already way more than half way through my time here in England, I'm writing in english. Before I came here to the UK, Sandra asked me whether I'll write my blog in English instead of German and I looked at her and thought: 'Are you kidding? No way, I could never do that...' but instead of saying that I just told her 'I don't know, but probably not...' Aaaaand here we are!!! My first blogpost in english...
So what happend the last few weeks?! It feels like ages that I wrote the last time...
Easter is coming!!! Yesterday was Palm Sunday, a pretty normal , but very significant Sunday. On Sunday morning after Breakfast, my hostdad asked me: 'What exactely is Palm Sunday? Is it the end of Lent?' And I thought about what to say and told him 'it is the beginning of easter'. As the beginning of easter, everyone in church got a palmcross in rememberance of Jesus' dead for forgiving our sins.
This week is called the 'Holy week', what I really like it because it shows us the importance of easter for Christians. This week is very busy and I thought that Chistmas was very stressful and loads to organise, but easter is even busier: Maundy Thursday service and supper, Good Friday interactive family service with different stations in the Morning and another service in the afternoon and then at last the Easter Sunday service followed by an Easter egg hunt oudside the church.
That sounds very nice and I'm really looking forward to each and every thing itself, but it also means a lot to get done. Even if this Easter will be completely different than the German Easter that I am used to, I love every moment that I am spending here. Instead of going skying, summer is coming and I'm relaxing at the beach and get my first sunburn in APRIL!!! That's freaking crazy! Yesterday we went to the beach and there have been as many people as I've never seen before on that beach. Some absolutely crazy people even went swimming in the sea without a wet suit and it seemed like August... Mad english people!!!
But not only Easter itself is different than in Germany, but also the time before, Lent. We raised money for an orphanage in Lesotho with different events. the uniformed groups have done a car wash, which raised over 400 Pounds. It was such fun, the little boys were full of energy and loved to wash the cars. In the end we had to shut the gates because the cars never stopped coming and we closed it at 12.15 instead of 12pm. Lots of fun and lots of happy faces afterwards. But not only the carwash, but also the lent lunches were a big success. Soup and Bread for lunch after church on a Wednesday to raise money. It was a nice way to meet people, have a chat and lunch. Lent Lunches, car wash and several cake sales raised over 1000 Pounds for the poor little children in Lesotho. We had a lot of fun and laughter and the kids in Lesotho need that support a lot!!!
As you can see, there is a lot going on in this church and I love the variation of things that we are doing here. (Right now we are planning for the Church Fete in July this summer) I am very excited about spending a part of my summer here in England with all these wonderful people.
